There’s the dhobi’s donkey, there’s the circus clown and then there’s the CRICBAY league umpires. No disrespect meant…..you’ll see – I am on your side. A job so under appreciated, so less respected yet so very crucial to the elaborate scheme of things.

Today, while browsing through the shelves in my personal library, I pulled out a book called “The Romance of Indian Cricket” written by Sujit Mukherjee, the existence of which book in my library, I had entirely forgotten. Soon followed some more books on cricket and other subjects, books by K. A. Abbas and others. Do I really own all these books, I wondered. “The Romance of Indian Cricket”, for example, was lying there almost since 1968 when I had bought it. I do not subscribe to the idea of “beg, borrow or steal”.

As the first round of matches comes to a close, I was reminiscing about my rendezvous with cricket in the bay area. I moved to the bay area 6 months ago and my friend Sujith introduced me to tennisball cricket.
