15 runs was reqd on the last over.
last over - bowled by sriram and batsmen was vidya.
Dot ball, a no ball + 2 runs, 1 run, a four, dot ball, four , run out while trying for the second run. good throw from the midwicket saw champs through...
Abhishek and Nagesh bowled well for champs.. Prasanna and Sandy batted well in the chase for Chargers..
This game absolutely deserves a write-up, so here it is:
Toss: Chargers won the toss and elected to field first.
1st set of 10 overs: Champs 52/4 (Kunal and Nagesh gave a steady start)
2nd set of 10 overs: Chargers 46/2 (Sandeep and Sujith almost knocked off the mini target with ease)
3rd set of 10 overs: Champs 111/6 (huge sixes by Abhi and great support by Sree)
4th set of 10 overs: Chargers kept up with needed run rate albeit they kept losing a few wickets on the way. The equation came down to 15 needed off the last over.
No - Abishek did not bowl the last over, rather this MoM award was a testimony for his 4 overs which went for only 12 runs on a pitch where all other bowlers struggled for economy. He also prized out 2 overs bowling most of his overs in the power plays.
Sree not at his usual best stepped up for the last over and Chargers were down to their last 2 wickets. This is how things panned out:
19.1: Sree to Sunder - 1 run to mid-wicket (14 off 5)
19.2: Sree to Vidya - 2 runs + 1 front-foot no-ball - swung away to deep square leg (11 off 5)
19.2 (free hit): Sree to Vidya - dot ball: beat the bat and straight to the keeper (11 off 4)
19.3: 4 runs - hit hard to deep mid wicket region for one-bounce four (7 off 3)
19.4: dot ball - hit straight to Abhi at mid-wicket after Sree mandaked Sunder at non-striker's end after giving him a warning the previous ball for backing up too far (7 off 2)
19.5: 4 runs - hit high to Nagesh at square leg and the ball bounces over him for a boundary (3 off 1)
19.6: 1 run - hit well but straight to myself at long on. A simple throw at non-striker's end meant the last wicket was run-out while attempting a non-existent second needed for the tie.
A very close game indeed - one that probably should not have been so close from Champs perspective, but a true fighting performance from the Chargers unit.
