Continuing from Part1.. and focussing on Bowling, Fielding, Wicket keepers and some team specific data analysis.. Hope you like it and feel free to comment.. If you missed the part 1.. you can check it out at here
I always thought Rochak was bowling very well this year and the numbers show that he has had an outstanding 2012. He kept putting out great numbers game after game and it shows. Anyone who gives just about 10 runs in 4 overs on an average (and sustains it over a long period) is pretty amazing. If you look at the list of bowlers who gave 3 runs per over (RPO) or less and is limited to bowlers who bowled at least 50 overs in 2012, Jayesh Vyas and Rajat Sar surely need to bowl more J
Highest Score by a Batsman in an innings: Saravanan Chidambaram (Yorkers ) 89 Jayesh Patil and Rohit Chakravarthy (Challengers) both scored 81 each in the same innings (what a nightmare for a bowling team) and they get a honorable mention J
Bowling
Most Wickets by a bowler in a single game:
Honorable Mention: Aravind Dongara (Cupertino Champions) 1.2-1-01-5
Note: Venkat Suravarupu is the only bowler with 2 6 wicket hauls in Cricbay.
Top wicket takers (minimum of 40 wickets).
Congratulations to Vishy, the only bowler who took 50 wickets this year,
The strike rate information is hard to collect, and hence, I went with Wickets per game and ranked the bowlers. (Minimum 25 wickets in 2012)
Most Number of overs bowled this year: Only two bowlers bowled over 100 overs (Swethabh came very close)
And these bowlers are most likely to bowl 4 overs every single game. (If a top bowler of your team is not in this list.. either you are finishing games quickly or have too many very good bowlers or he is not bowling enough J ) Subraya Mallya pretty much bowls 4 overs in every game he has plays.
Bowling Economy I always thought Rochak has had an outstanding 2012 as a bowler. He kept putting out great numbers game after game and it shows. Anyone who gives just about 10 runs in 4 overs on an average (and sustains it over a long period) is pretty amazing. The list of bowlers who gave 3 runs per over (RPO) or less and is limited to bowlers who bowled at least 50 overs in 2012. Jayesh Vyas and Rajat Sar surely need to bowl more J
Bowling economy is one part of being stingy. Bowling maiden overs is another crucial part. Puts pressure on batting teams and more often than not, gets wickets. Aamer Bhai leads that list with 17 maidens (there are teams which haven’t bowled that many maidens as a bowling unit this year!) Aamer is 5 short of 200 wickets; with a career economy of 2.97 has so far bowled 45 maidens and also has 860 runs. Outstanding Cricbay career I would say.
If anyone is wondering, here are the top 4 bowlers who gave the most number of runs (they bowled a lot of overs and took a lot of wickets as well J)
Bowling Extras: The most infuriating thing for a Captain would be to see his bowlers giving away freebies by bowling wides and noballs (Dropped catches comes close I am sure, but we have no way to track those)
Here’s a list of guys who would be a captain’s dream come true.. The list is limited to bowlers who have bowled at least 50 overs in 2012. Some of them have not bowled a no ball this whole year!
Most MOMs
Practically every one of these players are Match winners and have shown that they can single handedly win a game for their team. Two players of the team Topguns shared 14 Moms between them this year. Basha is at the top of the list with 8 which is just about incredible.. (MOM award every 3 and ahlf game his team plays!!). Topguns probably need some of the others to contribute a bit more consistently and they will win the big cup in no time. Aamer and Dhruvin pretty much carry the team on their shoulders with some support from the other 10. Most of the Platinum winning teams have 3-6 players winning MOM’s and the team is not dependent on one or two players increasing their chances going all the way to the Platinum glory.
Wicket Keepers
Naveen Gali and Parag have had an outstanding year. Ram Soanki and Geen are up there as expected. This is the list of top 5 and the dismissals include catches and stumpings.
No wicket keeper managed double digit stumping. Looks like Cricbay batsmen rarely venture out of their crease except for running J
Fielders – Runouts
Ashwin Kolhe tops this list and there are no surprises there as he is a live wire on the field. Darbar Basha is up there as well, explaining why he always shows up in the MVP calculations in most seasons with his batting, bowling, and fielding (He did get a MVP this year). Abhinav Bobba has 6 run outs which surely helps my theory about him being one of THE cricketers of 2012...
Fielders – Catches + Runouts
It is weird that we do not track catches taken by fielder. WE track catches + caught behinds and that list ends up with lot more wicket keepers than actual fielders. The only stat we have for fielders is catches + run outs. I have picked those who had at least 25 dismissals. Sumit Dhawan is another cricbayer who has had an outstanding 2012 in terms of runs, wickets and fielding. His numbers are getting better by the week. Abhinav is in the top 6 as well. Vijayan and Raj are in there showing how important they are to their team’s fortunes whether it’s batting or fielding.
Team Specific Data
Highest score by a team
You know bowlers are having dog days when the list has 7 scores of 150 or more.. Challengers show up couple of times as anyone would expect. The top of the list is the new Cricbay all time record that was set by Arslan. In fact, they are the only team in Cricbay history to have scored beyond 200. Interestingly, they haven’t managed to score too many after that, their only other 3 digit score is 116 (against Nemesis and they were chasing). Extreme’s 162 came in the Platinum Quarterfinals which is quite amazing and thanks to that Hurricane Khurram who just hit everyone out of the park.
To give you an idea about how teams are batting these days. Teams have scored 100 or more 988 times in the history of Cricbay and 266 of them came in 2012!! That’s almost 27% though there are more teams/games now and that’s probably resulting in more high scoring affairs.
Here’s a little breakdown on which team is most likely to inflict the most damage. Some names are way too obvious and some may not be so much but here’s the list anyways. This list might be misleading to some since it doesn’t account for teams that chased more often and couldn’t rake up big totals. It does show us some interesting things.. 3rd of challengers big scores came this year and it’s almost half for Seamers!

Who is more likely to concede 100+ runs to the opposition? RCPC conceded 100+ scores a whopping 10 times. Devils surely had their worst year as a bowling unit. Smokies could do better as well. “Overall” indicates the entire Cricbay history.

Highest chases by teams
This is a wonderful piece of information. Something that keeps defending teams on their toesJ. Teams have chased 100 or more runs 30 times. You reduce the limit to 90 and that number shoots upto 61.
Look at these teams that gave 110 or more and won (and their opponents). RCPC and Panthers can surely bat well but seem to have issues with bowling.. Imaging what good can a couple of stingy bowlers do to these teams.

All in all, there are 5 instances of RCPC scoring 90+ and losing. Panthers and nemesis have done it thrice, Mavericks and few others have done it twice. (‘Done” is NOT the right word here.. Is it ? ;-))
Here’s the list of teams that chased 90+ scores more often than others

I was on the ground fielding in Long on and then Long off, when one of the Gully cricketers Batsmen went berserk and scored 28 runs that changed the game and they successfully chased 110..
Arslan, Champs, RCPC, Nemesis, Weekenders, Weekend Champs, Sharks, San Jose Superstars, and Royal CC have done it twice this year. Like I said RCPC had a very interesting year which started with Winning the Silver Cup with some brilliant batting and bowling.
Lowest Total by a team
Not something to be proud of.. There were 92 instances of teams getting all out for 40 or less. And 22 instances of teams scoring 30 and losing all their wickets. One of those rare good days for bowlers is what I would like to think of themJ. These teams scored less than 25 last year.
Which team is most likely to restrict your team to a subpar score of 40 ?
In history of Cricbay, Teams have been all out for 40 or less 547 times (over 600 if you take 41 as the low scoreJ). In 2012, it happened 91 times. One of the reasons why teams like WCW or Extreme XI and some others don’t end up scoring a lot of triple digit scores is that they bowl well and restrict the teams to scores that much lesser..

Avengers, Chargers, Cupertino Champions and wielders have done it 3 times this year.
I would probably spend some time to figure who would be the top 3-5 performers of the year.. I would love to hear some comments and feedbacks and opinions before i even attempt that.. It's no fun otherwise..
