CricBay Help

CricBay is a volunteer driven community that has grown to 100 teams and over 2600 players. To maintain sanity, we have instituted some guidelines, processes and rules, that all of us need to adhere to starting from Registration to being a good citizen in the community. The Website serves as the hub for all things CricBay by providing an easy to use set of tools to manage teams, track schedules, statistics etc.

This document will give you a detailed understanding of what a team/individual need to know to be successful member of CricBay. You will need more than that on the ground.

Most Valuable Player (MVP)
  • 1 for Platinum/Gold
  • 1 for Silver/Gold divisions
MVP is a subjective decision. Besides considering 10+ metrics (below) we also contextualize an individual's performance in terms of their team, group etc
  • Runs Scored (a baseline of # runs is set as a filter based on length of the tournament e.g 150 runs)
  • Wickets Taken (a baseline of # wickets is set as filter based on the length of the tournament e.g. 15 wickets)
  • Keeping Dismissals
  • Fielding Dismissals
  • PoM Awards
  • Captaincy (if applicable)
  • Batting average
  • Strike Rate
  • Bowling economy
  • # of games played (must have played 75% of the total games)
  • additional subjective criteria like on-field behavior will be factored in
NOTE: Teams playing ranking games will use that opportunity to try out new players etc and that performance cannot be equated with the playoff performance of another player. Hence we don't consider playoffs/ranking statistics.

All Star Recognition

Each Tournament we pick the Top 24 players across all divisions and recognize them as All Star. Besides the Top 24, we pick another 6-8 backups to step in case players from the Top 24 are not able to make it.
Here is general criteria for selection that we follow. Please keep in mind, this is not an exhaustive list of criteria and as you know we cannot document every nuance that is involved.

Over-Arching Rules

  • For all ties, we will use tie-breakers that makes the most sense - for e.g. batting average, strike-rate for batters, economy, average for bowlers, etc
  • We will use a threshold/cut-off of minimum runs, minimum wickets to take the Top 5 and if there is not enough batters/bowlers that fall within the threshold then we fill other categories to with more All Stars
  • Only players having played 75% of games will be considered
  • Only stats from Round Robin stage is considered

Player Selection

  • Top 6 Batters by runs (one from each division to start with)
  • Top 6 Bowlers by wickets (one from each division to start with)
  • Top 2 Wicket Keepers
  • Top 10 All Rounders (including Batter+Bowler, Batter+Wicket Keeper, Batter+Bowler+Fielder, Batter+Bowler+Captain, Batter+Bowler+Wicket Keeper)
  • Top 2 Fielders (based on if we cannot get enough in the categories mentioned above)
  • 2-3 Reserves for each category

As mentioned above the breakdown of the # of players in each category might change if there is overwhelming number of good performers in another category. Remember it is Star Performers in the tournament and is not necessarily mandatory that we pick X number in each category

All players who play in the All Star Game will receive a plaque to recognize them as All Stars. They will also get a badge added to their profile in CricBay website to identify them as All Star
