How-To: Reset Account Password

It is conceivable that from time to time you will have reset the password of your CricBay website account, either because you forgot or you decided to make it more robust. Just as an advice, it is always a good practice to change your practice every 3-4 months or so, that way your account is not compromised.

That said, we sincerely hope the password change is not because you had temporarily shared the password with someone. It is a BIG NO NO. We will know if your account is used by someone else. We track a variety of data points that can tell us if your account is shared. You will be inviting trouble for doing something which a strict NO.

How to I reset the password?

As you know, you no longer need volunteers/administrators to reset password for your account. You can do it yourself - it is self-service. Here is how

  1. Visit the login page - http://www.cricbay.com/login.asp
  2. Click the link - Forgot your Password? - Click here to reset password
  3. That will take you to a page where you will be asked to enter your email address associated with that account and when you do that and click Send Reset Password Link - a notification will be sent you with a reset password link.
  4. Once you get that notification in that email account, Click the Reset Password link.
  5. That would take you to a page where you can enter new password and confirm the same.
  6. Once you confirm you should now be able to use the new password and log in.

Some issues to be aware of

Many users have encountered the following error when trying to reset the password after clicking the link in the notification

You have followed an INVALID or an EXPIRED LINK. Please retry the Reset Password."

Here is what happens with 99% of people who report this issue

  • Most people click reset password and when/if email does not come through, they go to the website and click the Forgot your Password link (step 2 above) once again.
  • For each reset request we generate a unique code and send it as part of the email we send to confirm the reset request. Consequently the code generated for the prior requests are now invalid.
  • While the user is busy doing this request second time, the verification email from first attempt comes through. The link as you know has the code from first attempt (which is now invalid due to the subsequent second attempt). Assuming the link is for the second attempt the user clicks and get that aforementioned error

So what can this issue be resolved?

  1. Go to your email inbox, delete all the emails related to the Reset Password sent by CricBay website
  2. Once done, go to the website, do a reset request
  3. Wait for the email to come. It should not take more than 5-10 secs.
  4. Once the notification comes through, Click the link in the email to verify and you should be good to go.

If after this you still get the error - have one of your teammates log a ticket (Website Defect) on your behalf.
