  • -1 DRR will be applied while calculating the final ranking after the end of the round or the tournament.
  • -0.5 DRR to carry forward to the next tournament
  • If a team forfeits more than once or if there are more than one umpire no shows in a tournament, additional penalties might apply as decided by CoRA. The team will also be not guaranteed a spot in the league in the following season

Withdrawal by a team

Starting 2018, here are the rules for teams bailing out

If Team withdraws before start of the tournament

  • If they opt to come back next season, and are accepted as new team (based on the constraints), they will start in Bronze

If a Team withdraws after the schedule is out without playing a game

  1. The team will be locked with all their players prevented from going to another team
  2. Levy a penalty fee depending on # games (ex - 14*40 = $560)
  3. Once penalties are paid team will be unlocked & players will be allowed to transfer to other team during same tournament
  4. Next season, they will start in Bronze

If the Team withdraws any time after a few games

  1. The team will be locked with all their players prevented from going to another team
  2. Full ground fees will be collected for the remaining games in the tournament (effectively a forfeit of each game)
  3. The team will be required to fulfil any/all remaining umpiring assignments.
  4. Once penalties are paid team will be unlocked & players will be allowed to transfer to other team during same tournament subject to the transfer rules.
  5. Next season, they will start in Bronze

Abandoned Games

  • A game is considered Abandoned only when it is deemed impractical to complete the game, in spite of the best efforts by all involved to complete the game, due to unforeseen circumstances or weather . Please refer to CricBay Handbook for further clarification.
  • For all interrupted games, DLS Method will be used to get the result for the game. DLS kicks in after 5 overs of team batting second.
  • For ABANDONED weekends (due to rains), CoLA may designate some weekends, on an ad-hoc basis, as buffer weekends. CoLA reserves the right to change the dates, the grounds, the umpiring assignments and the overall timeline of the tournament. CoLA’s decisions are binding on the playing and the umpiring teams. CoLA will be very fair and reasonable to all teams while making these adjustments
  • If for some reason, CoLA just cannot reschedule a game due to a variety of considerations, (including the unreasonable extension of tournament end date) both teams get 2 points each and 0 DRR
  • Teams may choose to play their "abandoned" games on the "Off" weekends  listed above (or any other weekend) , but it has to be mutually agreed upon by both playing teams. CoLA needs to be notified by raising a ticket of such a reschedule and the game result immediately following the game. While CoLA requests the umpiring teams to umpire the game, it is not mandatory for the umpiring teams to umpire on an off weekend unless the game was scheduled by CoLA. In this case the two playing teams need to proceed with the game without neutral umpires

Comments (#21)

Thanks for publishing the season details. Please consider long weekend of July 4th (6th and 7th of July) as off weekend for the tournament. Many teams would have players planning timeoff for that weekend. We faced same situation for last year.

Murali Bysani [Kingfishers] on 3/25/2019 1:25:05 PM

Thanks Nirajan and Ganesh.

With need to have first week of umpiring and game on same weekend, hopefully # of umpiring assignments are less compared to the other 2 weeks when teams do not have a game.

Harshad Chavan [Hattrickers] on 3/25/2019 3:31:03 PM

Thank you for sharing, shouldnt there be 30 teams each in PGS per earlier comms ? Or are we back to 28 in PGS & 38 in Bronze ??

Madhur Kulkarni [Rogues] on 3/25/2019 4:45:15 PM

Madhur - we went back to the original 28 for PGS as we felt that there is no equitable way of moving someone up and someone down. CoLA will now spend time thinking thru and coming up with logic on that. Also we will publish those rules ahead of time and make sure teams know in advance what is going to become of teams in case one or two of the teams promoted/relegated drop off or we end up having diff # teams in the league at-large.

Subraya Mallya [Warriors CC] on 3/25/2019 4:53:03 PM

Thanks for the update! Curious to know why P,G,S group size is changed from 30 to 28, different from what's proposed last week on FB.

Sumanth Thikka [MCC] on 3/25/2019 5:07:31 PM

Considering zig-zag manner of arranging teams, shouldn't Extreme (11) be in Plat group B and Synergy (12) in Plat group A? Also same applies to RCB (19) and Aryans (20) ?

Girish Hukkeri [i11 Cricket Club] on 3/25/2019 5:20:26 PM

Sumanth - we wanted to change the # of teams in the Division to accommodate the increased # of teams so that it makes it easy for scheduling, umpiring, # of grounds etc. But there was the issue of  - should we move the next two teams in line in the lower division to the higher division or should we let the top two of the teams identified for relegation to stay back in their previous division. A few teams that could have been impacted with this raised concerns and we did a re-think on the same. CoLA will take some time now and come up with a scalable rule that will handle all the possible scenarios. For now we will stay the course with the current promotion/relegation format - even though it added a significant amount of additional work for CoLA in terms of handling scheduling and coming up with a slightly different format for PGS and B divisions.

Subraya Mallya [Warriors CC] on 3/25/2019 5:52:35 PM

Girish - Thanks for catching them. That was typo by me manually entering the ranks - if you see the Final Ranking of FO2018 (link above the groupings) - the teams are right position in the zig-zag format - the rank I typed next to them was wrong. I have fixed both those instances.

Subraya Mallya [Warriors CC] on 3/25/2019 5:55:25 PM

Team 'Seals' name needs to be updated to 'Seals Utd'.

Avinash Dathathri [Seals United] on 3/25/2019 6:53:23 PM

The rules/Write up for Round Robin for Bronze, seems to be missing from the above. As there is just a title and then it talks about Promotion and Relegation. Could you please check and update accordingly

Booshan Krishnamurthy [East Indies] on 3/25/2019 6:57:02 PM

Booshan - Bronze rules are added now

Subraya Mallya [Warriors CC] on 3/25/2019 10:13:51 PM

There is India v Pakistan game on June 16Th. Cricbay May want to consider that as well

Sid Paruthi [Strikers] on 3/26/2019 12:14:29 AM

Under the promotion and relegation section, it should be

remaining 24 teams (34 in case of Bronze)

Karthikram Natarajan [Berkeley Machis] on 3/26/2019 12:33:11 AM

Assuming Power play overs would remain same, as previous 20 over tournaments ! 6 per innings, 3 called by each team, by different bowler ?

Madhur Kulkarni [Rogues] on 3/29/2019 2:55:58 PM

Madhur, PP overs and rules surrounding them remain unchanged

Sheshu Shenoy [Aryans CC] on 3/29/2019 3:21:13 PM

For Bronze - Do some of the below teams play 16 games if they reach Final (13 + QF/SF/Finals) ?

Top 2 teams (ranked 1 & 2) from Pool A & Pool B will get a direct entry to QF and get off weekend

Amay Patil [Gladiators] on 4/13/2019 8:45:29 PM

Could you please check if the play-offs weekends are same as given above? Based on current scheduled it seems they would be shifted by 1 week. Please verify and update the dates accordingly.

Murali Bysani [Kingfishers] on 7/2/2019 4:28:27 PM

Please confirm on play-off dates for Regular season 2019. We see that round robin games completing on 07/27/2019.

Murali Bysani [Kingfishers] on 7/9/2019 3:44:35 PM

Could you please clarify what would be used as the tie-breaker criteria to pick the top player in each catagory, i.e when same number of wkts/runs/catches taken by multiple players in the same division?

Abhinand Velekkat [Gladiators] on 7/30/2019 12:54:26 AM

since you are tied with another keeper for top keeper.. we will use tie breaker of who has more stumpings .. if that's a tie we will see who has scored more runs

there are similar things for batters (average/strike rate etc), bowlers (economuy, strike rate, maidens, PP overs bowled) etc

Sheshu Shenoy [Aryans CC] on 7/30/2019 8:17:13 PM

@Sheshu - Why not choose Avg/game as a criteria for Tie-breakers amongst keepers ? Just a thought, since stumpings/catches have pretty much equal weight.

Amay Patil [Gladiators] on 7/31/2019 12:47:36 PM
