Format and Other Details

  • Final divisions and groups for CT2020 are listed below. The teams have been placed in divisions based on the final ranking after FO2019, incorporating the promotion and relegation, and in zigzag order to form 4 groups for P,G,S and Bronze division for RR.
  • We are considering limiting the team number to 120 and hence increasing number of teams in P, G and S divisions to 30. If we decide to do that for 2020 Regular season.
    • Please refer to Relegation and Promotion Section for more details
  • Maximum number of games per team (including Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Finals or ranking games) will be 9/10.
  • This tournament will be a regular 20 Overs format with split innings. On weekends where rains affect ground availability, or any weekends where rains are predicted and hence threatening the viability of all 20 over games completing or if we are short of grounds, CoLA will deem a few games on few grounds or all games on a specific day or weekend to be T10 games.
  • Split Innings
    • Total number of wickets for the ENTIRE game remain the same.. That is you DO NOT have two separate innings per team
    • Team batting first will play 10 overs with a new ball and their innings will be paused there (Umpires WILL KEEP the first inning ball with them and this is very important). If they are all out within first 10 overs their batting innings will end there for this game.
    • Team batting second will play 10 overs with a new ball and their innings will pause at this time. (Umpires WILL KEEP the first inning ball with them and this is very important). If they are all out in this phase, their batting is over for the game. If they have scored less than whatever first innings team scored , then game is completed and team batting first is the winner.
    • Each team will play their second innings in the same order with the same ball that was used for their respective first innings.
    • There is NO FOLLOW ON.
  • In case of T20 games
    • If the first team played both innings and game was interrupted in 4th innings ANY TIME ON OR AFTER One over (11th over) is bowled, apply DLS with total overs as 20
    • If the gama was interrupted anytime BEFORE the 4th innings began, and game can not be continued for any reason DLS will NOT apply - In Other words, at least one over MUST be bowled in 4th Inings for DLS to kick in
    • No game can be abandoned without EXPLICIT approval from CoLA.. If a game interrupted TEAMS AND UMPIRES MUST wait for reasonable amount of time. Violations may result in games getting voided (no points), negative DRR penalties, captains and teams getting suspended or all the above. Please note that volunteers might be playing in a game too or might be umpiring and hence please wait until they get back.
  • Power Plays overs for T20 games will be same as always with 3 batting and 3 bowling PP overs to be bowled by a different bowler. There will be just ONE PP ove rfor T10 games and it would be the 5th over and is Mandatory.
  • Umpiring - All games will have 2 umpires
  • Once the Round Robin games are completed, CoLA will evaluate (and will have the sole discretion to decide) if there is any need for buffer weekends
  • If we do have an official Buffer Weekend then umpiring is mandatory on that weekend
  • Please refer to the rulebook for details about what to do when we have disrupted games
  • All teams will end up sending at least one umpire for the Qualifier, PreQuarters, Quarters and Semi-Finals weekend. Semi-Finals may be umpired by teams that lost in the Quarters phase and Finals may be umpired by the losing team from Semi Finals or by teams that will be picked by CoLA based on umpiring stats or past final appearances. Some assignments might be picked based on abandoned games, recent umpiring percentage, or randomly.
  • If playoff matches are affected due to weather, then CoLA will try to schedule the QF and SF OR SF and Finals on the same weekend. Qualifying teams should be prepared to play and umpire two games on a weekend. Ranking games will be abandoned for the same weekend.

Forfeits and Umpire No show Rules

  • To discourage forfeits and Umpiring no show during the tournaments the following rules are applicable:
  • The team that forfeits is liable for the entire ground payment.
  • -1 DRR will be applied while calculating the final ranking after the end of the round or the tournament.
  • -0.5 DRR to carry forward to the next tournament
  • If a team forfeits more than once or if there are more than one umpire no shows in a tournament, additional penalties might apply as decided by CoRA. The team will also be not guaranteed a spot in the league in the following season

Withdrawal by a team

Starting 2018, here are the rules for teams bailing out

If Team withdraws before the start of the tournament

  • If they opt to come back next season, and if are accepted as new team (based on the constraints), they will start in Bronze. Exception for CT they will be relegated to lower division in upcoming RS.

If a Team withdraws after the communication document is published without playing a game

  1. The team will be locked with all their players prevented from going to another team
  2. Levy a penalty fee depending on # games (ex - 14*40 = $560)
  3. Once penalties are paid team will be unlocked & players will be allowed to transfer to another team during the same tournament IF THE NEW TEAM accepts ALL THE UMPIRING assignments that are pending.
  4. Next season, they will start in Bronze if they are accepted into the league which is highly unlikely.

If the Team withdraws any time after a few games

  1. The team will be locked with all their players prevented from going to another team
  2. Full ground fees will be collected for the remaining games in the tournament (effectively a forfeit of each game)
  3. The team will be required to fulfil any/all remaining umpiring assignments.
  4. Once penalties are paid team will be unlocked & players will be allowed to transfer to another team during the same tournament subject to the transfer rules and IF THE NEW TEAM accepts ALL THE UMPIRING assignments that are pending.
  5. Next season, they will start in Bronze in the unlikely event of the etam getting accepted back in the league.

Abandoned Games

  • A game is considered Abandoned only when it is deemed impractical to complete the game, in spite of the best efforts by all involved to complete the game, due to unforeseen circumstances or weather . Please refer to CricBay Handbook for further clarification.
  • For all interrupted games, DLS Method will be used to get the result for the game. DLS kicks in after 5 overs of team batting second.
  • For ABANDONED weekends (due to rains), CoLA may designate some weekends, on an ad-hoc basis, as buffer weekends. CoLA reserves the right to change the dates, the grounds, the umpiring assignments and the overall timeline of the tournament. CoLA’s decisions are binding on the playing and the umpiring teams. CoLA will be very fair and reasonable to all teams while making these adjustments
  • If for some reason, CoLA just cannot reschedule a game due to a variety of considerations, (including the unreasonable extension of tournament end date) both teams get 2 points each and 0 DRR
  • Teams may choose to play their "abandoned" games on the "Off" weekends listed above (or any other weekend) , but it has to be mutually agreed upon by both playing teams. CoLA needs to be notified by raising a ticket for such a reschedule and the game result immediately following the game. While CoLA requests the umpiring teams to umpire the game, it is not mandatory for the umpiring teams to umpire on an off weekend unless the game was scheduled by CoLA. In this case the two playing teams need to proceed with the game without neutral umpires

Correction CT 2020 everywhere?

Madhav Chaudhari [Fire Falcons CC] on 1/20/2020 11:58:29 PM

Are there any rules around follow-on?

Meet Aghera [Absolute XI] on 1/21/2020 6:23:07 PM

If I understand the format for split innings correct, team batting first resumes second set of 10 overs from where they left off in terms of wickets and runs.

Say they were 3 down in first innings, they start second innings with batsman standing and wickets remained would be 8.

With regards to ball, its the same ball that is used in their first innings will be continued as long as its visible. If my assumption is correct, I feel umpires need to be instructed to hold the balls.

Please confirm. Thank you!

Sumanth Thikka [MCC] on 1/22/2020 12:14:11 PM

Typo: Total number of teams should be 114

Girish Hukkeri [i11 Cricket Club] on 1/27/2020 7:37:31 AM
@Meet: No follow-on in split innings. @Sumanth: Play stops at 10 overs for each team and they start the second inning with score at the end of their first inning (10 overs). Umpires need to keep the ball and use the same ball for the second inning. For more details, Sheshu has posted on Facebook page: While many in the league have been part of Split innings earlier, many new members and quite a few new teams haven't had any experience.. here are some details. The comms doc has the same information as well. This tournament will be a regular 20 Overs format with split innings. On weekends where rains affect ground availability, or any weekends where rains are predicted and hence threatening the viability of all 20 over games completing or if we are short of grounds, CoLA will deem a few games on few grounds or all games on a specific day or weekend to be T10 games. Split Innings Total number of wickets for the ENTIRE game remain the same.. That is you DO NOT have two separate innings per team Team batting first will play 10 overs with a new ball and their innings will be paused there (Umpires WILL KEEP the first inning ball with them and this is very important). If they are all out within first 10 overs their batting innings will end there for this game. Team batting second will play 10 overs with a new ball and their innings will pause at this time. (Umpires WILL KEEP the first inning ball with them and this is very important). If they are all out in this phase, their batting is over for the game. If they have scored less than whatever first innings team scored , then game is completed and team batting first is the winner. Each team will play their second innings in the same order with the same ball that was used for their respective first innings. There is NO FOLLOW ON. In case of T20 games If the first team played both innings and game was interrupted in 4th innings ANY TIME ON OR AFTER One over is bowled, apply DLS with total overs as 20 If the game was interrupted anytime during 3rd innings and before the 4th innings began DLS will NOT apply - In Other words, at least one over MUST be bowled in 4th Innings for DLS to kick in No game can be abandoned without EXPLICIT approval from CoLA.. Power Plays overs for T20 games will be same as always with 3 batting and 3 bowling PP overs to be bowled by a different bowler. There will be just ONE PP over for T10 games and it would be the 5th over and is Mandatory. Santosh Mundhe [Cupertino Champions] on 1/27/2020 3:14:18 PM
